ARSENIC POLLUTION

Arsenic is a chemical element that lies underground. Underground water, mixed with arsenic, comes up through well and tube well. Arsenic, a poisonous substance, when used, poses serious problem then. Moreover, effluents and garbage released by mills and factories, containing arsenic also contaminate water. Those who drink and use arsenic water suffer from many diseases. Some districts of West Bengal are arsenic prone. The problem becomes acute when the ground-water level goes down in hot summer days. Many voluntary organizations, with their limited resources, have come forward to help the villagers.-But, the Government should take proper steps to supply pure water to all arid save the victims of the poison.
