A VILLAGE FAIR

           A village fair is an annual gathering of buyers, sellers and villagers on a certain day or days to observe an occasion or occasions. So preparations for the fair go on for some days. Stalls are put up. Variety of goods like utensils, farm products, handicrafts, toys, sweetmeats are available in a village fair. When the occasion arrives, the whole village seems to wake up from its slumber. An atmosphere of din and bustle always prevails in a fair. So, villagers throng round the stalls and buy articles of their daily use. A village fair has its importance in many ways. It boosts up economy of a village. It also brings life to the monotonous life of the villagers.

A VILLAGE MARKET

          Each and every village has a market of Its own. It is generally a big place. There villagers come, buy and sell things of their daily use. So it sits either on the bank of a river or near a railway station or bus terminus where men or goods can easily reach, It generally sits either in the morning or in the evening. Most of the village markets are not well planned. There are both permanent and temporary Shops. Almost everything of daily use is available in the village market, Prices of things are also moderate. Still, good deal of giggling always takes place there. The economy of a village depends largely on a village market. But, what is lacking is healthy, and hygienic atmosphere of such markets.

COUNTRY LIFE

       God made the country. If it is true, one should visit the countryside to form some ideas about it. Countryside is quiet and peaceful. There Is nothing artificial. One can see the open face of heaven. The air is pure. Noise is less. Vast fields smile with green crops. Birds sing merely. There is no shortage of fields for the children to play. After sunset, the countryside presents a different picture. Birds are found flying to their nests. The western sky is becoming crimson. Soon afterwards, a hush of silence descends upon the whole horizon. At night, a complete silence reigns supreme. Deep darkness engulfs the four corners of the earth.

SPORTS IN HUMAN LIFE

          The value of gains and sports has now rightly been understood by all. Games and spoils keep us physically fit. We can have sound mind if only we have sound health. Another value of games and sports is that they are an excellent recreation. They give us fresh energy to our body and mind. They also provide excellent training in concentration and alertness. Games and sports are related to coolness, courage and self-control They also teach discipline and cooperation. A player discovers the value of team-spirit. lie is trained to accept both success and failure in good grace. He has to abide fey the rules of the games. Thus, games and spoils are also a part of education.

PLANNING FOR AN EXCURSION

           We were a group of excited youths. After a lot of discussions, we decided to go to Darjeeling, the queen of hills. Our purpose of the excursion was to enjoy picture-postcard perfect scenery of the Himalayas. We chalked out a plan to complete our excursion in a fortnight. We shall first go to Siliguri by the Darjeeling Mail. After that, we shall start for Darjeeling the next day. A car or a bus will serve our purpose for that. We thought of The difficulties that might spoil our excitement. That is why, we loaded ourselves with warm clothes, dry food and a guide book to overcome them.

YOUR DUTIES AS A CITIZEN

            A citizen is one who dwells in a city. While the citizens have rights to enjoy, they also have some duties to perform. Thus, rights are counter-balanced with duties. First duty of a citizen is to be an ideal citizen; that is, he should possess all the essential qualities of a citizen. Tb make the society a happy place to live in, he must abide by the laws of the country. He should also cooperate with others to create a healthy atmosphere of the society. The duty of an ideal citizen is to render voluntary service to the country. It must be remembered that the prosperity of a country depends on ideal citizens who contribute much to make a country better than the best.

ENERGY CRISIS

          Modern civilization cannot run without energy We cook food, light lamps, run cars, use pumps and do many other things. For these we need energy. For energy we depend on nature. Thus, we get wood, coal, oil, gas, petroleum, electricity etc. from nature. The fact is that the demand of energy is increasing day by day. But, it is not unlimited. Thus, this has become short in supply. Yet, we have to move on. Otherwise, our progress will stop. To tide over the crisis, solar energy is being used in India for different purposes. Bio-gas from cow dung is also widely used in the rural areas. Energy is vital. So, this should be used judiciously. Otherwise, human civilization will come to a halt one day.
