Terrorism means use of violence, especially for political purposes. At present, it has become the headlines of the dailies. Terrorist activities have spread almost all over India mostly in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir. Terrorists are well-organised and well trained. They have a link all over the world. Causes behind terrorism are many. But, terrorist activities cannot be supported, as they cause social unrest and hampers economic development. So, terrorism needs to be curbed. If the Government is too soft with the terrorists they will be encouraged to increase their demands. So, strict laws should be enacted. Even slightest allowances cannot be given to them in any way.

RIVERS
Rivers are the gifts of nature. A river generally originates from mountains. Then it flows down the slopes and plains and finally mingles with ocean and sea. Rivers play an important role in human life. During the rainy season, rivers overflow their banks and cover them with slit which makes the soil fertile. Rivers are the means of communication. For this important towns and cities generally grow along the banks of rivers. But, rivets sometimes betray. During the monsoon, they flood the banks and cause untold sufferings to lives and properties. This is the destructive aspect of the rivers. In spite of that, rivers are not the enemies, but the friends of man.

RAINY SEASON IN BENGAL
The rainy season follows summer. It lasts for two months — ‘Ashara and Shravana’. The sky is over cast with clouds. Sometimes it drizzles; sometimes It rains cats and dogs. Trees get fresh water. Ponds and canals are filled with water. Farmers are seen busy in the fields. Roads become full of water. Normal work generally gets disrupted. But, incessant rainfall often causes flood. It also brings some diseases with it. Common people suffer much. Crops are washed away. News of death and destruction also reach our ears. Thus, the rainy season brings hope in one hand, despair on the other. Yet, common people, look forward to the happy days and wait patiently for the autumn to come.

DUTIES OF A CITIZEN
The word citizen means a person who lives in a town and not in a village. But it has another meaning too. Any person who has full rights in a State is a citizen. It does not matter whether he lives in a town or in a village. A citizen enjoys many rights, but he has also many duties to the State. A citizen ought to love his country and serve his fellow citizens. He should help his family and at the same time he should help his friends, relations and neighbors, too. He should develop the virtue of discipline in him. In order to live happily, he must see to it that his actions never bring to others around him. A good citizen never breaks the laws of the land, but encourages others to lead an honest life. As students, we should acquire the good qualities of head and heart so as to grow up as good citizens in future.

A MEMORABLE DAY IN MY LIFE
I can never forget the day when my father, who has always been kind to me, bought me a new bicycle. It was October 18,1985. My father, a lecturer at a local college, usually comes home at five, but that ’day he was rather late. My mother got anxious. I thought I would go to one of our neighbors and ask for help. Hardly had I gone out of my house when I heard my father ‘calling from behind. Lo! ‘Father was riding a new bicycle. It had a sleek look; it was bright and shining. I liked it at once. To my great surprise, father declared that he bought it for me. I jumped upon the saddle and cycled round for some time. I felt happy and excited. I had become a proud owner of an attractive bicycle.
