THE VALUE OF TIME

Time and tide wait for none - goes the proverb. The proverb says the importance of time. In fact, value of time in our life is great. Life is short, but responsibilities are huge indeed. So, if we do not use time properly, we cannot complete our work in our short life-time. We have to leave behind a lot of works undone. So every moment of our lift is precious. We may get our lost wealth by labour, Lost health by medicine and food, but time once lost, is never gained. Indeed, to kill time means to kill future. This is true to every sphere of life. Prosperous nations are those that do not waste any moment. We, the Indians, should learn lessons from them.

Arsenic, a poisonous substance, when used, poses serious problem then. Moreover, effluents and garbage released by mills and factories, containing arsenic also contaminate water. Those who drink and use arsenic water suffer from many diseases. Some districts of West Bengal are arsenic prone. The problem becomes acute when the ground-water level goes down in hot summer days. Many voluntary organizations, with their limited resources, have come forward to help the villagers.-But, the Government should take proper steps to supply pure water to all arid save the victims of the poison.

WHY DO WE LOVE BOOKS?

We love books for many causes. The first cause is that books are our never-failing friends with whom we converse day by day. The best friend sometimes desert or betray, but a good book never. He’s the friend, philosopher and guide of our life. A good book is the store-house of knowledge. By reading master works of the world, we come in contact with the master minds of the world. They inspire us in many ways. They are a source of joy for ever. They also cheer us in despair. Reading of books, however, is a play of the intellect and imagination of mental recreation and exercise. We read books not only for profit but also for pleasure. Hence, books are inevitable to us.

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND ITS IMPORTANCE

Vocational education means educational training that provides a student with practical experience in a particular educational field. Now, in India we find a large army of unemployed educated youths vainly look for jobs. Hence, there is an urgent need to train oneself for some useful vocation that can help one to learn a living. Vocational education is preferable to the traditional one for a large section of students as it will help them to help themselves. Students, having vocational education, will enjoy greater employment opportunities in the growing industries. Even there is scope for self-employment for specially trained youths. Thus, youthful energy can be properly utilized for socially useful productive works. If properly trained, there will be no dearth of supply of skilled hands to different productive centres. Hence, there is wider scope of expanding Vocational Education centres.

COUNTRY LIFE

God made the country. If it is true, one should visit the countryside to form some ideas about it. Countryside is quiet and peaceful. There Is nothing artificial. One can see the open face of heaven. The air is pure. Noise is less. Vast fields smile with green crops. Birds sing merely. There is no shortage of fields for the children to play. After sunset, the countryside presents a different picture. Birds are found flying to their nests. The western sky is becoming crimson. Soon afterwards, a hush of silence descends upon the whole horizon. At night, a complete silence reigns supreme. Deep darkness engulfs the four corners of the earth.

YOUR DUTIES AS A CITIZEN

A citizen is one who dwells in a city. While the citizens have rights to enjoy, they also have some duties to perform. Thus, rights are counter-balanced with duties. First duty of a citizen is to be an ideal citizen; that is, he should possess all the essential qualities of a citizen. Tb make the society a happy place to live in, he must abide by the laws of the country. He should also cooperate with others to create a healthy atmosphere of the society. The duty of an ideal citizen is to render voluntary service to the country. It must be remembered that the prosperity of a country depends on ideal citizens who contribute much to make a country better than the best.

ENERGY CRISIS

Modern civilization cannot run without energy We cook food, light lamps, run cars, use pumps and do many other things. For these we need energy. For energy we depend on nature. Thus, we get wood, coal, oil, gas, petroleum, electricity etc. from nature. The fact is that the demand of energy is increasing day by day. But, it is not unlimited. Thus, this has become short in supply. Yet, we have to move on. Otherwise, our progress will stop. To tide over the crisis, solar energy is being used in India for different purposes. Bio-gas from cow dung is also widely used in the rural areas. Energy is vital. So, this should be used judiciously. Otherwise, human civilization will come to a halt one day.
